Welcome to a look at León! We are the authors of this blog, where we will introduce you our city. Now, we will introduce ourselves separately.

Hi! My name is Ivan Mielgo, and I'm in charge of writing the entry called 'León', where y talk about the city where we live. I'm 19 years old, I love technology and my favorite hobby is to watch series and movies. I'm in the primary education degree because I always wanted to be a teacher, due to I like to teach and to help kids getting more and more knowledge

Hi, I'm Ricardo Macho Valderrey. I'm the student who has written the part of diferent cultural activities to do in Leon.
My passion is music, I breathe music!! I'm pianist and I love classical music. I wish I could be a concert pianist or a composer. I study this degree because I want to transmit to the studenst in special forms and techniques to teach, I'm in love with teaching!! I would be a music teacher...

Hello, I'm Sara Seijas. I am the person who wrote about the University of León.
I am 19 years old and one of my hobbies is music.
I am in Primary Education Degree because I love children, teaching and because it has been my dream since I was a child.

I am Marta Fernandez Llamas, what I like doing in my day a day is listen to music and go out with my friends.Also I love singing because it relaxes me. On the one  hand, I have decided to study the Degree in Primary Education because when I was small I wanted to be a teacher.

Finally the entry that I have done of this blog it is the qualified " The different spaces of our faculty " where are explained the different places that our faculty has. 

 

Hi everybody! My name is Jesús San Martín, and I am the author of the sports entry, “Leon, a city who love sport”.

 I’m 19 years old, and I love sport, especially the cycling in the trials discipline. That is why I did the sports entry on the blog. I’m in the Primary Education Degree because I love teach children, and in the future, I want to*have my own trials school.

León

León is a city located in the nortwest of the Iberian peninsula in the autonomous Community of Castilla y León.

In the historical center we can find some of the most spectacular monuments of all Spain. One of its main symbols is its cathedral. The cathedral has one of the best stained glass in Europe,  giving different light tones according to the moment of the day.

In the historical center we also can find 3 squares: the main square, the square of the pidgeons and the square of the Grain. All of them attract many pilgrims all the year in spite of the cold that usually does in the city.

In front of the square of the Pidgeons is located the palace of Botines, which was designed by the famous architect Antonio Gaudí. Also in the historical center there are several restaurants, puibs and cafes where you can eat the famous León’s ‘tapas’, which is some food that restaurants gives with the drink you have ordered.

Other interesting constructions are the parador of León and the romanic colegiata of León. In addition, the Colegiata has some Romanian frescoes, which are called the Romanian Sistine Chapel.

In León, there are two famous roundabouts, the square of Guzmán and the square of Santo Domingo, which are near Papalaguinda and the Countness, places near the river where you can give long walks. 

And if you like football, the local team ‘Cultural Leonesa’, has risen this year of división and it’s near the main división of the Spanish Football League.

In Leon there are some cultural places that could interest you.

Auditorium of Leon

The building was designed by the architectural study of Madrid “Mansilla y Tuñón Arquitectos” and it was inaugurated on 3th may 2002 by the exprince and currently King of Spain.

The Auditorium has received the “Spanish Price of Architecture” in 2003 and it was finalist in the Price Mies Van der Rohe of Contemporany Architecture of the European Union and also in the VII Spanish Biannual of Architecture and Urbanism.

 The Auditorium has 9000 m2 and 3 floors. It has articulated in 2 parts or modules. The first module is the concert room with capacity for 1133 persons of audience and 745 on the stage, dressing rooms and rehearsal rooms. The second module has the exhibition rooms. Besides concerts and exhibitions of art, the auditorium can accept and make video or audio recordings.

The Square of the grain ("Plaza del Grano")

This square is located in the old zone of Leon. His original name is Square of Saint Mery of the Road “Santa María del Camino” because it is placed behind the church with the same name. The ground is a flagstone pavement of mediaeval era.

In this square there are some activities: folklorik dancing, typical dishes, representationc and activities,…

There have been some demonstrations, the council has tried to remove the historical flagstone.

Concerts in the Cathedral

There are so many concerts in the cathedral. Since september there are concerts of Organ.

A big number of profesional musicians of Europe and America come to león to offer a concert in our unique organ, which is one of the best and more expensives organ in the world. Besides concerts of organ, there are other choral and orchestral concerts.

Sometimes this restaurant offers to dinner with concerts. If you have 35 euros and some freetime... You have a new plan!!

Events in public library of Leon:

 In the library of our city, sometimes there are releases of new artworks, books, talks by writers, concerts, readings,... The writers who give that releases will often be local writers or writers in the surroundings

The choirs of the schools and Choral Associations.

In our city, some schools have an out-of-school activity: The Choir. Children can have the opportunity to be initiated in choral world. The "profesionals" who sing better could enter in the municipal choir or in a better choral association, because the chorals of schools don´t ussually sings very well, but there are exceptions.

Out of schools there are some important choral associations: The municipal children`s Choir "City of Leon",The Angel Barja´s Choir, "Cantarte", The Classical Chapel,...

JJMM (Musical Youths)

This is a proyect started in 1945 in Brusels. UNESCO said that it is the most important youth cultural mouvement in the world. It was created in Spain in 1952 and it is a non-profit entity

of public utility. In Leon this proyect started in october 1998. This proyect colaborates with our university since 1998 because of an agreement. This proyect has:

Music Band JJMM-ULE

This is the wind section of JJMM agrupations. Their repertory is very unusual and includes various genres: jazz, marchs, valtz, pasodoble,…

Angel Barja Choir JJMM-ULE

It was started in february 1991 thanks of an initiative from the Councillorship of Culture of the town council. The objective was to give Young people a place in choral music. Their name is in honor to Angel Barja, one of the best composers in XX century in Leon and Spain, died in 1987.

Orchestra JJMM-ULE

Very experience in the transmission of the orchestral music. Appointed and assigned to vice rectory of institutional relations and university extensión of the ULE. The orchestra has offered a large amount of concertos and recordings, and they have been in music festivals inside and outside of that …

Teatro el Albéitar.

That is a theater situated in the Rectory. Our university proyects films and organize conferences. There are some representations of theater and dancing.

University of León

INFORMATION

The University of León is a public university based in the city of León, (Spain), and with an additional campus in Ponferrada.

This university has 8 faculties (Veterinary, Biological Sciences, Education, Mining, Agronomy, Philosophy and Literature and Law), 6 schools and two private centers attached distributed between the campuses of Vegazana (León) and Ponferrada.

It has a Language Center, in which the students can choose to study these languages: Spanish, English, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Italian.

It also has an ICT Center where the calendula supercomputer is located and practices are carried out at the company HP.

Associated with the university is also the Clinical Veterinary Hospital of Castilla y León where the students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine practice their practices.

For all the students, there is also a library.

The Library is a resource center for learning, teaching, research and activities related to the operation and management of the University as a whole.

Its mission is to facilitate the access and diffusion of information resources and to collaborate in the processes of creation of knowledge, in order to contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the University.

The different spaces of our faculty

Our faculty has three floors in which different classrooms are located where most of the subjects of the three courses offered by the faculty of education.

On the ground floor, there are the plastic classroom, the music classroom, the corporal expression classroom one of the computer classroom of this faculty,which is not used to teach but  is for students to do work.

There are also a library ,where students can find great variety of books related to education.

In  addition to the classrooms one and two where normally take exams or given  classes, the deanery, the administration and concierge.

On the first floor, is the lecture hall, the hall of degrees, different departments like departments of general didactics, departaments of specific didactics and departament of theory of education.

On the same floor, is also the delegation of students as well as the numbered classrooms from ten to twenty where classes are taught and in addition another computer classroom.

Finally on the top floor are the classrooms numbered one until  ten in addition to the departaments of sociology, psicology and philosophy.

In addition to all these spaces, has several coffee machines that make the study more enjoyable

Leon, a city who love sport

The city of León, is a very rich city in the field of sports, we can find  in  it a big variety of sports, including even indigenous sports, such as the “Lucha Leonesa”(Lionese fighting). In León you can find a wide variety of sports centers, as well as the  municipal football stadium “Reino de León”, where the local football team, "La Cultural", trains. Next to the football stadium is the sports palace of Leon, where the famous Handball local team, "Ademar", trains too.

For the lovers of mountain and nature, next to León we can find the Candamia, where are beautiful routes between the pines to ride a bike, run, or even picnic or walk with the dog.

But, we can find places to ride the bike, walk, run and enjoy the nature without get out of the city. I’m talking about the promenade of Bernesga river, only at 8 minutes walking from the center of Leon.

We can’t forget the sport service of the ULE, where we can find a very big variety of activities, no mather what type of sport do you prefer, team or individual sports. Finally, next to the campus, we can find the Centre of High Performance of Leon (C.A.R) http://www.ceardleon.com/, where it’s the training place of a few of the best nationals athletes… and also the best athletes in the world.
